Motohiro Hayakawa (1974, Yamaguchi Prefecture) started his career based in Tokyo after graduating from the Yamaguchi College of Arts in 2000. In recent years, he has been active both in Japan and abroad for exhibitions, live paintings, music videos, and contributions to festivals.
His style is influenced by the analogue techniques of ‘special effects’, ‘anime’ and ‘manga’ of the 1960s, as well as by the TV animation of the 1970s and 1980s. Hayakawa’s works of fictional universal fights reflect social conflicts, public commentary, evil, and justice with a taste of American comic style, punk rock and also Japanese painting, and have gained popularity in Europe, Asia, and in both North and South America.
Saki Matsumoto has curated a collection to introduce contemporary Japanese illustrators at LUSTR festival 2022.
